 From the Commanding Officer:
We have an increasing problem with finding gear adrift after drills. Please make every effort to keep track of and retrieve your personal belongings.  It is not the responsibility of the Officers to clean up shirts, jackets, notebooks and etc.  All of us need to remember to make sure the spaces we use are completely clean before closing muster.

Cadet of the Quarter:  Congratulations to both Cadets for their fine work
January to March:                   Cadet Freel
April to June                             Cadet Garcia.

AWARDS CEREMONY TO BE HELD SEPTEMBER 21st 2002 at 2:00 PM.
The ceremony will be held in the Bear Room above the Museum at the entrance to the Base. All are invited to support your youth
in their achievements.

COMMUNITY SERVICE TIME:
There is still some confusion regarding community service and advancement. There is no requirement, either at the National or unit level, connecting community service and advancement.  Any qualified community service time you serve is credited toward the NSCC Community Service ribbon.  If you still have any questions on this, please direct them to Ens. Brandt

GOOD NEWS:
After our meeting with the Coast guard on the 8th of July, we were given permission to use the two spaces behind our offices.  Work will begin soon to get them cleaned up and things moved.  Many thanks to our hosts for their generosity.

PARENT SUPPORT ORGANIZATION:
We are looking for someone that would be interested in spearheading the Parent Support Group.  Will give lots of support to whomever
Would like to handle this very important position.

SUMMER PROGRAMS:
Now that we are in the middle of the summer programs, we have had 4 Cadets finish Boot Camp, 1 finish MAA training and 2 the Petty
Officer Leadership Program.

From Operations:
New Destroyer at  Everett
The Commissioning Ceremony for the USS Shoup (DDG 86) was a great success. There were about 15 Cadets from 4 Units attending and all received real thanks from the crew of the ship. Some even got pictures taken with the Admiral and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. The USS Shoup is the latest of the Arleigh-Burke class destroyers and is equipped with the Aegis defense systems (see this web link for more detailed specifications:  >DDG865

From Admin/Pers:
Cadets and Officers often have questions regarding Admin., Regulations, and other topics.  As a reminder, don't forget to look at the Naval Sea Cadet web site for the latest news:                                       SEA CADET RESOURCES

We are instituting a Cadet request “Chit”.  You can obtain one from the Admin office or the Yeoman. All blocks on the Chit must be filled in and returned to Admin. or the proper chain of command person.

DRILL SCHEDULE:
I have received lots of inquiries on drill dates.  Here is a reminder of those dates through the month of September.  Please mark these down in your calendars for future reference.

ID CARDS
A reminder will be sent to those whose ID cards are going to expire soon.  Please see Ens. Brandt as soon as possible to make sure a new card is issued.

CORRESPONDENCE COURSES:
Remember to keep working on your advancement courses.  This is not a suggestion; it is a requirement.  NO exceptions  You should be advancing at least one rate per year. Current versions of the courses, questions, and a blank answer sheet are available from:  The training department.
When you complete an advancement course and are ready to turn it in, remember the following steps:
Double check to make sure you have filled in all your answers and your personal information is complete at the top of the page(s)
Make a copy of your answer sheets and give the original to training for grading.
After your course grade is returned, contact training when you are ready to take the exam.

From Supply:
Mrs. Freel, the Supply Officer requests that everyone PLEASE ask her for any supplies.  There is a new accountability system to assist her in reordering flashes, ribbons, etc.  If you do not check with her it will mess up the whole system.  She has also requested that anyone that can donate needles, thread and any other sewing materials to mend uniforms and sew on flashes. It would be greatly appreciated. Anyone that might have a heavy duty sewing machine they would like to donate for the alterations of uniforms, it would be greatly appreciated.

From the LPO and ALPO
From now on, all Cadets are requested to bring a notebook and writing utensils with them to drill.  These will supplement classroom and other training evolutions. There will be a color guard drill each day of this months drill.  Check with LPO Freel for exact time.
